Rebar is the most essential building material for any structural construction. You cannot imagine any structural construction without Rebar. Because some major parts of the building are fatal, which cannot be made without rebar like footing, beam, slab, column, etc. In such a situation, to estimate the quantity and cost of steel used in construction before any construction, we should know the weight of the steel bar or know how to calculate the weight of steel bar.
Steel bar is known by many other names in different countries like a rod, rebar, reinforcement bar, etc. Generally in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc Hindi, and Urdu-speaking places rebar is called rods or steel bars. The rest of the steel bar, rebar, or reinforcement bar is spoken in the countries of Europe, Australia, and the American continents.

Formula for Steel bar weight
Mainly rebar is measured in 3 units first kg/m, second kg/ft, and third lb/ft. Three different formulas are used to calculate the weight of the rebar in all three units, which are given below.
- The D2L/162 formula is used to measure in kg/m.
- The D2L/533 formula is used to measure in kg/ft.
- The (D2L/533)2.2 formula is used to measure in lb/ft. (1 kg is equal to 2.2 lb, so we are multiplying by 2.2 to convert kg to lb.)
In this formula “D” is the diameter of the rebar, and L is the length of the rebar.
How to calculate steel bar weight
To calculate the steel bar weight, you need to know the diameter of the steel bar and the length of the steel bar. The length of the steel bar is measured in two units, feet, and meters. There are 2 different formulas to calculate the weight of steel bars in feet and meters, which I have already told you above. Now further in this article, we will calculate the weight of steel bars of different sizes.
Weight of 6 mm steel bar
6mm steel rods are very thin in size, and are rarely used in construction. Even if 6mm steel bar is used in construction, it is used for stirrups.
6mm steel rod weight per foot
We have the diameter of the steel bar is 6mm, and the length of the steel bar is 1 foot.
So, 6 mm steel bar weight per foot = D2L/533
= (62) 1/533
= 36/533 = 0.067 kg.
So, the 6mm steel bar weight per foot is 0.067 kg per foot.
6 mm steel bar weight per meter
The diameter of the steel bar is 6mm, and the length of the steel bar is 1 meter.
So, 6 mm steel bar weight per meter = D2L/162
= (62) 1/162
= 36/162 = 0.222 kg.
So, the 6mm steel bar weight per meter is 0.222 kg per meter.
6 mm steel bar weight per piece
As we all know the standard length of a steel bar is 40 feet or 12 meters.
So 1 piece steel bar length = 12 meter, and diameter = 6mm
So, 6 mm steel bar weight per piece = D2L/162
= (62) 12/162
= 432/162 = 2.666 kg.
So, the 6mm steel bar weight per piece is 2.666 kg per piece.
Weight of 8 mm steel bar
8mm steel rod weight per foot
We have the diameter of the steel bar is 8mm, and the length of the steel bar is 1 foot.
So, 8 mm steel bar weight per foot = D2L/533
= (82) 1/533
= 64/533 = 0.120 kg.
So, the 8mm steel bar weight per foot is 0.120 kg per foot.
8 mm steel bar weight per meter
The diameter of the steel bar is 8mm, and the length of the steel bar is 1 meter.
So, 8 mm steel bar weight per meter = D2L/162
= (82) 1/162
= 64/162 = 0.395 kg.
So, the 8mm steel bar weight per meter is 0.395 kg per meter.
8 mm steel bar weight per piece
As we all know the standard length of a steel bar is 40 feet or 12 meters.
So 1 piece steel bar length = 12 meter, and diameter = 8mm
So, 8 mm steel bar weight per piece = D2L/162
= (82) 12/162
= 768/162 = 4.74 kg.
So, the 8mm steel bar weight per piece is 4.74 kg per piece.
8 mm steel bar weight per bundle
As we all know, the number of steel bars in 1 bundle of 8mm is 10.
So, a total weight of 8mm steel bar bundle = weight of 1 piece × 10
We have already calculated 8 mm steel bar weight per piece which is 4.74 kg.
So, 1 bundle 8mm steel bar weight = 1 piece 8mm weight × 10
= 4.74 × 10
= 47.4 kg.
So, the 8mm steel bar weight per bundle is 4.74 kg per bundle.
Weight of 10 mm steel bar
10mm steel rod weight per foot
We have the diameter of the steel bar is 10mm, and the length of the steel bar is 1 foot.

So, the 10mm steel bar weight per foot is 0.187 kg per foot.
10 mm steel bar weight per meter
The diameter of the steel bar is 10mm, and the length of the steel bar is 1 meter.
So, 10 mm steel bar weight per meter = D2L/162
= (102) 1/162
= 100/162 = 0.617 kg.
So, the 10mm steel bar weight per meter is 0.617 kg per meter.
10 mm steel bar weight per piece
As we all know the standard length of a steel bar is 40 feet or 12 meters.

So, 10 mm steel bar weight per piece = D2L/162
= (102) 12/162
= 1200/162 = 7.40 kg.
So, the 10mm steel bar weight per piece is 7.40 kg per piece.
10 mm steel bar weight per bundle
As we all know, the number of steel bars in 1 bundle of 10mm is 7.
So, a total weight of 8mm steel bar bundle = weight of 1 piece × 7
We have already calculated 10 mm steel bar weight per piece which is 7.40 kg.
So, 1 bundle 10mm steel bar weight = 1 piece 10mm weight × 7
= 7.40 × 7
= 51.8 kg.
So, the 10mm steel bar weight per bundle is 51.8 kg per bundle.
Weight of 12 mm steel bar
12mm steel rod weight per foot
