How to calculate Cement and sand quantity for tiles of 100 sq ft area

Hello, friends welcome back to another article where we will discuss How to calculate cement and sand quantity for tiles of 100 sq ft area as we know that nowadays tiles play an essential role in completing any building surface construction. It also provides beauty to the roofs, floors, and walls. It is applied with the help of cement and sand. So here we will calculate the quantity of cement and sand For fixing the tiles in a 100 sq ft area.

What is tiles?

Tiles are the hardest material made up of ceramic, and stones. In the modern era, it is also made from plastic glass, asphalt, and asbestos cement. Mainly the shape tiles are round, square, rectangular, and hexagonal.

Popular tiles used in construction work –

  1. Ceramic
  2. Cement tiles
  3. Marble
  4. Travertine
  5. Porcelain
  6. Granite

What is the tiles installation process?

As we discussed we need cement and sand to lay the tiles. We have to make mortar by mixing cement and sand. Mortar is made in such a way that after applying it on the floor or wall, it can hold the tiles. First, where we want to install the tiles, mortar is applied, then the tiles are applied to it.

What is the thickness of cement mortar for flooring tiles installation?

Cement mortar means a mixture of cement and sand. The ratio of cement mortar for flooring tiles should be 1:3. where 1 part of cement then there should be 3 parts of sand. The thickness of cement mortar for flooring tiles installation should be 1 inch to 3 inches. So we can take the thickness as 1.5 inches for floors but in the case of walls, it should be 1 inch.

Cement mortar calculation for flooring tile installation of 100 sq ft

Now we are going to calculate the cement sand quantity for tiles for 100 sq ft area as the data we have:-

Area -100 sq. ft. Thickness of mortar = 1.5 inches.

Now, first, we need to calculate the wet volume of mortar.

Wet volume = 100 ×1.5/12 CFT (12 inches is equal to 1 foot).

Wet volume = 12.5 cubic feet.

We have got the wet volume of 12.5 CFT but we know that in the case of dry volume, the volume got increased by 33% I.e 1.33.

So to find the dry volume we will have to multiply the wet volume by the increased volume.

So, 12.5 ×1.33 =16.625 cubic ft. Now we got the dry volume =16.625 CFT.

The mix ratio of cement and sand for the installation of tiles is 1:3 total Ratio = 1 + 3 = 4.

Quantity of cement calculation for 100 sq. ft tile installation

We have Dry volume =16.625 CFT. Part of cement=1 total ratio of cement and sand = 1+3=4.

The volume of cement = part of cement × dry volume/total ratio.

The volume of cement = 1 × 16.625/4 = 4.156 cubic ft.

20 % extra amount of cement is needed for coating and adhesive material.

Therefore, the quantity of cement required for 100 sq. ft tiles installation will be 3.324 cubic ft.

So, the required cement would be 4.156 × 20/100 = 0.83125 cubic ft. 4.156 + 0.83125 = 4.987 cubic ft.

As we know that 1 bag of cement =1.226 cubic ft.

Then the total number of cement bags needed for 4.987.For 100 sq. Feet tiles installation would be 4.987 ÷ 1.226 = 4 bags of cement. So, we need 4 bags of cement for the 100 sq. ft tiles installation.

Now, we need to find the volume of sand for the 100 sq. ft tiles installation as we have the mortar ratio 1:3. Where 1 denotes a bag of cement and 3 denotes the sand.

So, the volume of sand = part of sand ×dry volume/total ratio.

The volume of sand = 3 × 16.625/4 = 12.468 cubic ft.

Calculate the quantity of cement mortar for flooring tile for 1000 sq. ft area

Now we are going to calculate the cement sand quantity for tiles of 1000 sq. ft area as the data we have:-

For a 100 sq. ft area = 4 bags of cement are needed.

1 sq.ft area = 4/100 bags cement.

For 1000 sq. ft = 1000×4/100 = 40 bags of cement.

Therefore The fixing tiles for the installation of a 1000 sq. ft area the required cement would be 40 bags.

Sand volume calculation in cubic feet for 1000 sq. ft

As 100 sq. ft fixing of tiles =12.468 cubic ft. sand

1 sq. ft = 12.468/100 cubic feet sand.

1000 sq.ft =1000 × 12.468/100 = 138.54 cubic feet sand.

Therefore, the sand volume for tiles fixing for 1000 square feet area will be 124.68 cubic feet of sand.

Calculate the quantity of cement mortar for flooring tile for 2000 sq ft area

Now we are going to calculate the cement sand quantity for tiles of 2000 sq. ft area as the data we have:-

For 100 sq. ft area = 4 bags of cement are needed.

1 sq.ft area = 4/100 bags cement.

For 2000 sq ft = 2000 × 4/100 = 80 bags of cement.

Therefore The fixing tiles for the installation of a 2000 sq. ft area the required cement would be 80 bags.

Sand volume calculation in cubic feet for 2000 sq. ft

As 100 sq. ft fixing of tiles = 12.468 cubic ft. sand

1 sq. ft = 12.468/100 cubic feet sand.

2000 sq.ft = 2000 × 12.468/100 = 249.36 cubic feet sand.

Therefore, the sand volume for tiles fixing for a 2000 square feet area will be 249.36 cubic feet.
