Hello everyone, welcome back to another article. Where we are going to discuss How much cement, sand, and aggregate are required for 1m3 of M25 concrete. And how much cement, and sand aggregate are required for M25 concrete per cubic meter. As we know that there are many different-different types of concrete. As there is a change in the mix ratio used in it, which means that the quantity of cement, sand, and aggregate also changes.
The grade of concretes
M5, M7.5, M10, M15, M20, and M25 are the grades of concrete. where M denotes the mixed grade and the numbers denote the compressive strength of concrete. Which takes 28 days time period to gain strength after curing.
It’s numberic figure which shows compressive strength in N/mm2 as M5= 5N/mm2, M7.5= 7.5 N/mm2, M10= 10 N/mm2, M15= 15N/mm2, M20= 20N/mm2, M25= 25N/mm2.
Let us understand the grade of concrete more clearly:- The grade of concrete can be understood by its strength and the material which is used for concreting like cement, sand, and aggregate. It is measured in N/mm2 or MPa where M denotes the mix and “pa” denotes overall features of comprehensive strength.
How many types of concrete grades?
There are three types of concrete grade-
- Normal grade of concrete
- Standard-grade of concrete
- High-strength grade of concrete.
What is the Normal Grade of concrete:-The nominal mix ratio of cement, sand, and aggregate are called the normal grade of concrete. As-M5, M7.5, M10, M15, M20, M25.
What is standard grade of concrete? – Its mix ratio has a higher compressive strength compared to the normal grade of concrete.As-M25, M30, M35, M40, M45.
What is high strength grade of concrete? -Its mix ratio has a higher compressive strength compared to normal and standard-grade of concrete. As- M50, M55, M60, M65, M70.
But according to the code book IS456, the minimum grade of concrete for Construction work is M20. Which is used for all types of RCC work.M5, M7.5, M10, and M15 are not used in for construction work. The minimum grade of concrete is used for mass concreting. Like- construction of the heavy wall, ground filling, etc.
While the use of standard-grade of concrete and high-standard-grade concrete is heavy work. Like – commertial, industrial and residential buildings, Dams bridges, etc.
How many types of cement, sand, and aggregate mix ratio in concrete?
There are two types of cement, sand and aggregate mixed ration in concrete.
- Nominal mix.
- Design mix.
1. Nominal mix concrete – As we have discussed that the fix ratio of cement sand and aggregate is called nominal mix concrete. As-M5, M7.5, M10, M15, M20, M25. According to the IS456 code book.
2. Design mix– These are standard and high-strength concrete grades. Generally, this is used for load-bearing structures. Like Earthquake resistance, column bending moment, Cement, and other environmental factors. It depends on the types or quality of cement, sand, and aggregate.

How much cement, sand, and aggregate are required for 1m3 of M25 concrete
In M25 of the mixture as we know that M denotes the mix and The number 25 denotes the compressive strength. Which are 25N/mm2 and a curing time of 28 days. The mix ratio of M25 concrete is 1:1:2.Where 1 shows the part of cement the other 1 shows the part of sand and 2 shows the aggregate ratio. Aggregate means the mixture of stone and water.
Concrete weight of M25 for 1m3.– It is based on How we use M25 concrete for 1m3. It means in the RCC (reinforcement cement concrete) work the unit of M25 concrete for 1m3 will be 2400kg/m3 and in the PCC (plain cement concrete) work the unit weight of M25 concrete for 1m3 will be 2500kg/m3.
To calculate the quantity of cement, sand, and aggregate for 1m3 of M25 concrete we have the Mix ratio for M25 concrete =1:1:2.
And the wet volume of concrete =1m3. As we have the wet volume of concrete but we need the dry volume to calculate the quantity of cement, sand, and aggregate.
When we mix water in the mixture of cement, sand, and aggregate, then the air voids present in it start to evaporate. That is why the wet volume of the mixture is reduced by 54%. And the dry volume of the mixture is increased by 54% from the wet volume.
So the wet volume we have 1m3. 54 % of 1m3 = 0.54m3.
So the Dry volume will be = 1m3 × 0.54m3 =1.54m3.
For M25 the nominal mix ratio we have is 1:1:2. The total mix proportion of the mix will be 1+1+2 = 4. It means cement =1/4, sand =1/4 and aggregate = 2/4.
How much cement required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in a cubic meter?
As we have the dry volume =1.54m3, part of cement in total mix =1/4, and the density of cement =1440 kg/m3. So, cement required for 1m3 of M25 concrete = 1.54 × 1/4 = 0.385m3.
So, 0.385m3 cement needed for 1m3 of M25 concrete.
How much cement required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in kg
As we have the dry volume of concrete =1.54m3.
part of cement in total mix =1/4, and the density of cement =1440 kg/m3.
So,the cement required for 1m3 of M25 concrete = concrete dry volume × part of cement in mix × cement density.
= 1.54m3 × 1/4m3 × 1440kg/m3 = 554 kgs.
So, it is clear that 554 kg cement is needed for 1m3 of M25 concrete.
How many cement bags required for 1m3 of M25 concrete?
As we know that the weight of 1 bag of cement = 50kg. Now we are going to calculate the number of bags required for 1m3 of M25 concrete = (1.54m3 × 1/4m3 × 1440 kg/m3) ÷ 50 = 11 bags of cement. Therefore, 11 bags of cement is needed for 1m3 of M25 concrete.
How much sand required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in a cubic meter
We have dry volume = 1.54 me, and the part of sand in the mix = 1/4. And the sand density is =1620 kg/m3. And 1 cubic meter = 35.3147 cubic feet.
Sand required for 1m3 of M25 concrete = 1.54m3 × 1/4 = 0.385m3.
So, the needed sand for 1m3 of M25 concrete in cubic meter = 0.385m3.
How much sand required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in kg
As we have the dry volume =1.54m3, part of the sand in total mix =1/4, and the density of sand =1620 kg/m3.So,the sand required for 1m3 of M25 concrete = 1.54m3 × 1/4m3 × 1620 kg/m3 = 624 kgs. So, it is clear that 624 kg of sand need for 1m3 of M25 concrete.
How much sand is required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in cubic feet?
To calculate the required sand for 1m3 of M25 concrete in cubic feet = (1/4 × 1.54m3) ÷ 35.3147 × (1620 kg/m3)= 18 cubic feet. So, the required quantity of sand for 1m3 of M25 concrete =18 cubic feet (0.385m3 or 624 kg).
How much aggregate required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in a cubic meter?
As we have the dry volume =1.54m3, part of aggregate in total mix = 2/4, and the density of aggregate =1550 kg/m3. And 1 cubic meter = 35.3147 cubic foot.
Aggregate required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in cubic meter = 2/4 × 1.54m3 = 0.77 m3.
How much aggregate required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in kg?
Aggregate required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in kg = 2/4 × 1.54m3 × 1550 kg/m3 = 1194 kg.
The required aggregate quantity is 1194 kg for 1m3 of M25 concrete.
How much aggregate required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in CFT?
Aggregate required for 1m3 of M25 concrete in cubic foot = (2/4 × 1.54m3) ÷ 35.3147 × 1550 kg/m3 = 36 cubic foot. The required aggregate quantity for 1m3 of M25 concrete = 36 CFT.
So the quantity we have got for 1m3 of M25 concrete is as given:-
Cement – 11 bags (0.385 m3 or 554 kg), sand-18 cubic feet (0.385 m3, or 624 kg), aggregate – 36 cubic feet (0.77 m3, or 1194 kg).
Weight of sand and aggregate required for 50 kg cement bag for M25 concrete grade.
Now we are going to find the required quantity of sand and aggregate for a 50 kg cement bag for 1m3 of M25 concrete grade. For that, we have cement =11 bags, sand = 624 kg, and aggregate = 1194 kg.
Because 11 bags of cement = 624 kg of sand. So, 1 bag = 624/11= 56.7 or around 57 kg sand required.
Similarly, 11 bags of cement = 1194 kg. So,1 bag of cement = 1194/11= 108.5 or around 109 kg aggregate required.
Required volume of sand and aggregate for 50 kg cement bag for M25 grade of concrete.
Now we are going to find the required volume of sand and aggregate for a 50 kg cement bag for 1m3 of M25 concrete grade. Where, we have 11 bags of cement,18 cubic foot sand, and 36 cubic foot aggregate.
11-bag cement = 18 cubic foot sand. So 1 bag of cement = 18/11 =1.64 cubic feet.
Similarly, 11 bags of cement = 36 cubic foot aggregate. So 1 bag of cement = 36/11 = 3.27 cubic foot aggregate.
Hence, 1.64 cubic foot sand and 3.27 cubic foot aggregate require for a 50 kg cement bag of M25 concrete.
